Which split suits your league

Up to 6 playersWinner takes allOne prize keeps a small group honest; a second prize at this size is a consolation nobody wanted.
8 to 14 playersTop 3, 50 / 30 / 20Three prizes keep the chasing pack playing through the spring instead of giving up in February.
15 or moreTop 5, or top 3 plus a monthly prizeA bigger group needs more ways to win; a manager-of-the-month prize keeps the bottom half checking their team.

Write the split down where everyone can see it before the first deadline, and decide the tie rule at the same time (most leagues share the tied prizes equally). The prize ideas guide has splits for every league size and the non-cash prizes that work.

Questions people ask

What is a good prize split for a fantasy football mini league?

Winner takes all works up to about six players. From eight players, a top-three split of 50 / 30 / 20 keeps the chasing pack interested into the spring. From fifteen players, a top-five split (40 / 25 / 15 / 12 / 8) or a top three plus a manager-of-the-month prize keeps more people playing to the end.

How do you work out the prize pool?

Multiply the entry fee by the number of players, then subtract anything taken out before the split (a trophy, a platform fee). That is the prize pool. Each prize is the pool multiplied by that rank's share, so a £120 pool with a 50 / 30 / 20 split pays £60, £36 and £24.

What if fewer people join than there are prizes?

Drop the empty places and share their percentages out across the remaining prizes in proportion. A 50 / 30 / 20 split with only two players becomes 62.5 / 37.5, so every pound in the pool is still paid out. This calculator does that automatically.

Does Gaffer take a fee?

Yes, a 5% service fee on each entry, taken at the moment of joining and shown before anyone pays. The prize pool is the rest. Nobody holds the pool, not the commissioner and not Gaffer: it sits in the league's own vault until the final standings are in, then the winners are paid automatically.
